Permits & Forms

  • Permit Information:

  • One permit per day per household. Please be sure to have a weather backup plan for any outdoor event. A refund for weather-related cancelations will not be issued.
  • Permit Applications—All permit requests should be completed online via the appropriate permit application.  We do not take reservations or payments over the phone. Links to permit applications are available to further down on this page.
  • Permit Approval/Distributing Process —Once an application has been approved an email will be sent to the primary contact indicating approval status, balance owed, and any documents that may need to be uploaded (ie. insurance for wedding ceremonies).  Once approved applicants must pay the permit fee online, and upload any documentation within 5 business days OR before the reservation date, whichever comes first.  After the balance is paid, and any necessary documentation is submitted, the Permit will be issued and an email notification will be sent.
  • Insurance — The Town requires proof of liability insurance to approve some permits.  This can be obtained from an insurance provider of your choice.  See the permit applications for more information.
  • Special Requests — Special requests (locations not specified on the application) need to go before the Recreation & Parks Commission for approval at their next regularly scheduled meeting.  Once approved by the Commission an email will be sent to the primary contact indicating approval status, balance owed, and any documents that may need to be uploaded (ie. insurance for wedding ceremonies).  Once approved applicants must pay the permit fee online, and upload any documentation within 10 business days OR before the reservation date, whichever comes first.  After the balance is paid, and any necessary documentation is submitted, the Permit will be issued and an email notification will be sent.

  • Judy and Gene Jacobi Community Center Facility Permit:

  • Click here to complete an application for a Judy and Gene Jacobi Community Center location.  Community Center rooms include the Arts & Crafts Room, Conference Room, Game Room, and Dining Room.
  • Permits for Community Center weekend events may take up to 8 business days to coordinate the approval and/or staffing.  All special requests go to the Commission for consideration at their next scheduled meeting.
  • Any private event scheduled that is open to public attendance requires insurance.
  • The Center is for Town & resident use.  Advertising, commercial use (businesses or private camps/programs), and soliciting are prohibited.
  • The Center is a multi-use facility and more than 1 event may be occurring at the same time.

Town Park Permit

Rental Policies and Guidelines (please read carefully)

  • No open fires (bonfires) or alcohol are allowed on any properties under the jurisdiction of Recreation & Parks (Code of the Town of Marblehead § 236-1).
  • All wedding ceremonies & large events (corporate picnics, charity fund raisers, reunions, events open to the public, etc.) require insurance.
  • "Seasonal" permits are for Memorial Day weekend through Labor day weekend.
  • The large pavilion at Devereux beach by the bathrooms is for public use; the picnic pavilions can be reserved by permit. 
  • There is no public electricity on any property.
  • Parks can not be closed to the public for private use. 
  • Park Department athletic fields are for Town of Marblehead sports, Town recreation programs, and public use, not for private rentals.
  • Please remember that all parks are public property. Your help in keeping our parks clean and safe is always appreciated.
  • If you have questions regarding the Town's requirements for insurance, please call the Selectmen's office at (781) 631-0000.
  • Please take adverse weather into account when planning your event.
Permit Applications for Small Gatherings (non-wedding/non-event): 
Permit Applications for Wedding Ceremonies: Chandler Hovey, Castle Rock, and Crocker Park can be booked for wedding ceremonies ONLY, not receptions. The approval process could take up to 4 weeks. Required: General Liability insurance (1 million occurrence/3 million aggregate). Special Request Park Permit:
  • Park Permit Special Requests Application - The approval process could take up to 4 weeks.  Special Events permits may be subject to General Liability insurance (1 million occurrence/3 million aggregate) and fees.

Float Storage Permit:

Located at Riverhead Beach for Winter storage only.  Space is limited and availble to residents only.

Kayak/Pram/Paddleboard Rack Permits:

Kayak/Pram/Paddleboard Racks are available at Stramski/Gerry Playground & Riverhead Beach.  Valid May 15th to November 15th to residents only (proof of residency required).

Remaining spaces will be made available to new applicants online, first come first served, on the first Monday in May at 11:00 am.  We encourage you to create an account prior to the first Monday in May, as the spaces fill up quickly.

Orne Garden Permit:

Valid May to November.  Residents only.  This permit reserves a plot in the Orne Community Garden at Bud Orne Playground on Evans Road.  Space is very limited and a waiting list is kept each season. Permit holders are responsible for clearing and maintaining their plots.  No running water is available.

To renew your permit, please follow the steps below:

  • Go to: marblehead.org/recreation  and click on Account Log-In.
  • Choose Browse Activities.
  • Click on 2022 Winter/Spring Programs & Events.
  • 2022 Public Gardens Permit Application is located in the third box from the top.
  • Click on Show Sessions to choose a plot. Add the plot to your cart and proceed to check out.

Town Tennis and Pickleball Court Use:

Online reservations are now required for the Seaside Park tennis courts, Marblehead High School tennis courts, and Veterans Middle School tennis and pickleball courts. No private lessons are allowed on public courts.

Memorial Benches:

At this time no new requests for memorial benches are being accepted.  Please check back here for any changes or updates to this status.  Memorial benches are intended to replace older benches as needed.
