License Fees:

All dogs in town must be licensed at 6 months of age in accordance with state law.  All dog licenses expire December 31st each year.  A rabies certificate is required to obtain a dog license.  You may obtain a rabies certificate from your veterinarian.

• The cost of the dog license is $15.00 for a spayed/neutered dog with a spay/neuter certificate, or documentation from your vet.
• The cost of the dog license is $20.00 for an intact dog, or a dog without a spay/neuter certificate.

Dogs must be licensed by January 31st to avoid additional fines.  State law and Town by-law allows for a $50.00 fine to be assessed every 30 days starting February 1st.

License Renewals:

All dog licenses are renewed on an annual basis according to state law.  The re-licensing period in Marblehead for dog licenses is January 1st through January 31st.  The Town Clerk's office sends out a registration form with the annual census each year.

Payment Options for Dog Licenses

By Mail:

You may renew your dog license by mail if you send a copy of your rabies certificate and spay/neuter certificate, with the appropriate fee ($15.00).  Before renewing by mail, please contact us to see if we have up-to-date rabies & spay/neuter (if applicable) information.

Drop Boxes:

Location: Abbot Hall, 188 Washington St. or the Mary Alley Minicipal Building, 7 Widger Rd.

You may renew your  dog license using the drop boxes if you include a copy of your rabies certificate and spay/neuter certificate (if needed) with the appropriate fee ($15 or $20 intact). Before renewing by mail, please contact the office to make sure we have up-to-date rabies and spay/neuter (if applicable) certificates on file.

Online:

The Town of Marblehead is pleased to enable residents to pay for renewed dog licenses online!  Residents using this online payment feature can be assured that their bank account information and the payments are encrypted and securely processed.  The online payment system will require you to upload a copy of your up-to-date rabies certificate and spay/neuter certificate prior to making your payment.

To pay online for a new dog or to change the fee for a spayed/neutered dog, please contact the Town Clerk's office at 781-631-0528 or by e-mail at TownClerk@marblehead.org.

The online payment processing is provided by an outside company, City Hall Systems.  A small fee per transaction is charged for using the online payment option.  If you experience difficulties paying your bill online, please call City Hall Systems at (508) 381-5455 and they will assist you.
