License Renewals

For renewal licenses, you will need the following items for your appointment:

  1. MA Firearms License that you wish to renew.
  2. Two pieces of mail with your name and Marblehead residential address to help verify you live here. Please note, post office boxes cannot be accepted.
  3. A check for $100 made payable to the Town of Marblehead.  Please note, if you are 70 years of age or over, renewals are free.  If you are 70 years of age or over and renewing an FID-D License for Mace/Pepper Spray, there is also no fee.

To expedite the process, please download a copy of the firearms application from the MA's Executive Office of Public Safety and Security website.

The appointment should last approximately thirty minutes.  It takes roughly 1.5 months for the renewed license to arrive at Marblehead Police Headquarters from the state.

There is a 90-day grace period, which begins to run on the date the license is set to expire provided you have started the renewal process prior to expiration.

Please contact the Firearms Licensing Unit by email or phone at (781) 631-1212 ext. 76, to schedule an appointment.
