1. How does a holiday effect curbside trash collection?

Trash and recycling pick-up is delayed one day and the Transfer Station is closed on the holiday.

2. Where can I dispose of a propane tank?

Propane tanks can be brought to Dawson Hardware in Beverly or to Marblehead's Household Hazardous Waste Day held once each year, usually in June.

3. Where can I dispose of a refrigerator, freezer or air conditioner?

These items can be disposed of at Turner Trucking and Salvage on Commercial Street in Lynn (781-595-3741).

4. Can old paint cans be discarded at the Transfer Station?

• Latex paint is not a hazardous waste. Use a small amount of cat litter or sawdust to dry out residual wet paint. The latex paint cans can then be disposed of, two at a time, in your regular trash.


• Oil- based paint, stains, waterproofers, sealants, etc. should be disposed of at the annual Household Hazardous Waste day in June.

5. What is a Facilities Sticker?

A Resident Facilities Sticker is a decal for your car and is vaild until December 31. It allows you to enter the Transfer Station to drop off trash and recycling. It also allows access to the Swap Shed, drop-off's of clothing for charities and free parking at Devereux Beach.

6. How much is a Facility Sticker?

$55 for the first sticker, $10 for each additional sticker for vehicles registered to the same residence. $10 for replacement stickers.

7. When is the Swap Shed open?

The Swap Shed is for residents to drop off useable items and take home items left by others. Click on "More" below for further information.

8. Where can I get a blue recycle bin or a composter for my yard?

Both items are available at the Board of Health office at the Mary Alley Municipal Building, 7 Widger Road. The charge for the recycle bin is $6.00 and the composter costs $25.

9. How can I get free compost?

Residents with a Facilities Sticker can get free compost at the yard waste area of the Transfer Station. Remember to bring your own tools and containers.
